The lens as an instrument of connection

My journey into filmmaking began at the Netherlands Film Academy, where I specialized in documentary directing. While my studies focused on the art of storytelling, I found myself drawn to the emotional power of the camera department. I discovered that a camera is not just a recording device, it is a catalyst for intimacy. There is a transformation that happens when a subject feels truly seen through the lens, and my practice is centered on creating a sanctuary of comfort and honesty. I believe in the power of vulnerability and aim to share the delicate nature of a person through film.

Since graduating in 2016, my signature has become defined by the documentary essay, a personal and poetic approach to storytelling where I deeply engage with both the subject and my camera. For me, filmmaking is inherently intimate. This is particularly evident in my work exploring identity, gender fluidity, and the rich layers of Afro Dutch heritage. By focusing on these themes, I aim to translate complex histories and personal journeys into visual narratives that honor the radical pursuit of autonomy.

Based in Amsterdam, I work as a multidisciplinary creator guiding projects from the first spark of an idea through to the final edit. My lens has taken me across the globe, from Tanzania and the Caribbean to the heart of Suriname, always seeking stories of intersectionality and human connection. Beyond my personal cinematic essays, I apply this same integrity to social collaborations. I partner with organizations such as Humanitas, Rutgers, and Demeter to translate societal issues into grounded, visual stories that feel urgent and deeply human.

Key Projects

  • Djina Was Here (2016 – Present): A long term documentary essay exploring a twelve year transition and the boundaries of friendship.
  • KUMBA TE (Sound Documentary) (Launching June 2026): An immersive audio walk through nature, reflecting on Surinamese heritage in collaboration with Wensley Piqué.
  • ODO (2024): A national touring Live Cinema Performance centered on the history of resistance during Surinamese slavery.
  • 2gether (2016): An autobiographical graduation film exploring the poetic remains of a lost childhood connection.

I also collaborate with creative agencies such as Dawn Collective, Pool Worldwide, and The Merge for brands including Suzuki and Demeter, always bringing a documentary driven heart to commercial stories.
